What is HercGUI?
HercGUI is a standard Windows program that makes using the Hercules emulator
much easier to use. It allows you to change configuration settings and add
new devices by means of simple and easy to understand Windows dialogs
just like any other Windows program you are already familiar with using.
It automatically maintains your Hercules configuration and log files
for you and provides semi-realistic real-time user feedback of your
virtual mainframe's activity.
HercGUI's user interface is completely configurable allowing you lay out the
screen the way that works best for you. You can change the amount of information
that is displayed and how it is displayed by letting you to choose your own font
style and color as well as the location of each information bar on the screen.
You can examine storage and register values in real time (as well as modify and/or
copy and paste their values to the clipboard), search for messages, display status,
dynamically plug and unplug devices, submit jobs, and spool printout with the help
of the HercPrt product offered separately.
It comes with a complete context sensitive
Help file that explains how
to configure and use each aspect of the product, and each dialog (all of which are
resizable) provides quick "tooltip" help balloons explaining the purpose of each field.
It comes delivered with its own Windows
installer that provides you with everything
you need to get your virtual mainframe up and running with no extra installation steps
needed whatsoever. The installation file comes pre-packaged with all required runtime
dependencies (e.g. the Visual C++ runtime redistributables for example) and are
automatically installed as part of HercGUI's installation. No extra downloads or
installation steps are necessary.
System Requirements
HercGUI works best with the
SDL version
of Hercules 4.x Hyperion.
The older 3.x series of Hercules does not have many of the features that
the newer
SDL version of Hercules 4.x Hyperion has.
One of the features the older 3.x series of Hercules is missing is the ability
to properly report individual CPU Percentages for the new HercGUI CPU Percents
pane. When you use a 3.x version of Hercules you do not see any CPU Percentages.
When you use
the SDL version of Hercules 4.x Hyperion
however, HercGUI's CPU Percents pane correctly shows the percent busy for each
individual processor engine.
